It seemed that the rain and the weather of San Sebastián had settled in Barcelona while we waited for the train at Sants station. Even so, according to weather forecasts, everything indicated that we were going to bring the sun to San Sebastian land. To go from Barcelona to San Sebastián by train, you must take the train to Irún. It has a stop in Tarragona, Lleida, Zaragoza, Tudela, Pamplona, Tolosa and San Sebastián.

It is an Alvia model train, with ample seating, headphones to listen to radio and watch the trip movie. In addition, it has a wagon-cafeteria. I have to say that the train was slower than normal, which caused a 45 minute delay. Upon arrival, we were returned 25% of the ticket price (although it can be claimed within two months).

The journey was pleasant, with varied landscapes according to the geographical area through which we passed. After passing through Pamplona, areas of greenish tones and, in the distance, the Cantabrian Mountains begin to be seen. On the other hand, it was the heaviest part because it was the last leg and we knew we were almost an hour late. It is a journey of 5h 25min that was made from 6h 15min.

Upon arrival, we made the claim like other travelers. On the way to the hostel, in the district of Gros, behind the Kursaal, you can see the bourgeois legacy of Donostia with buildings that are almost French-style palaces.

Surprising in San Sebastián is the low presence of hotels but, instead, there are pensions and hostels that act as three-star hotels. If you go with a low-cost budget, it is more advisable to book a room in a pension. Our choice was the Kursaal Pension that can be booked at Destinia.com, and as the name implies, it is right next to the Palacio de Congresos. It is located on the first floor of the building and the elevator is a museum. In one door of the landing there is the reception and rooms, and in the other door, the rest of the rooms. Its website does not do it justice, because it has been renewed for a year and a half. Parquet floors, automatic lighting, stylish decoration and the room does not deceive: spacious, with a large window with small balcony, closet, safe, TV, wifi and comfortable bed. The bathroom follows the same line with shower and amenities as a professional hair dryer, gel and liquid shampoo in envelopes and hand soap.

The girl at the reception told us that there is the possibility of having breakfast at the pension for € 4 and they bring it to you in the room at the time you have agreed the day before. Includes: coffee, Colacao or tea, juice, muffins and toast with butter and jam. We left our bags and went to find a place to have dinner.
